Who's That Girl?
Back to the Press Room
Little Debbie is more
than a brand - she's also the granddaughter of company
founders, O.D and Ruth McKee. In 1960, O.D. was trying
to come up with a catchy name for his new family pack
of snacks. A packaging supplier, Bob Mosher, suggested
the name Little Debbie in honor of the McKee’s
4-year-old granddaughter, Debbie. They decided to use
an Olan Mills picture of her in a straw hat as the
basis for the Little Debbie logo on the carton. Atlanta
Artist Pearl Mann did the original artwork, making
young Debbie look a little older – around 8 or
9. The Little Debbie brand took off immediately, and
the rest is history!
